Shibori Workshop With The Local

Shibori Workshop With The Local

Founded on the 8th century in Japan, Shibori was the earliest known example of cloth dyed technique in the Nara. But up until the 20th century, the fabrics that they used were silk, hemp and later cotton with indigo dye.

In the modern world or what we call “nowadays”, there many ways for you to bind, stitch, fold, twist, or compress cloth, and always remember that each method you choose also create a different patterns. However, certain method is used with certain type of cloth to get the best result. In short, the technique you used in Shibori depends not only on the desired pattern, but the type of the cloth you dyed.

On October 3rd 2016, we collaborate together with a Shibori conductor to teach the local how to make a Shibori using a natural color and we were very surprised for their enthusiasm. As part of our CSR, this workshop was attend by at least 20 people both men and women.

This is the first step for us to provide them an additional skill, such as a handicraft, which will later be useful for them. For a preview, you can follow our instagram simply by clicking this link here.
