In our very own Sahang Beachfront Resto, the freshest local ingredients, wisdom, community, and seasons have always become our core inspirations on creating the 5-senses seasonal menu. But do you know that you yourselves, our guests, are also our main inspirations on creating new cuisines in Sahang Resto?
We often asked our guests on their wildest ideas, “What kind of cuisine do you want to be here for you to eat?”. We personally like to ask that question to our guests as sometimes it is surprising to know what our guests truly love or their comfort food. We love to hear the wildest ideas from our guests, and if we can transform it into a special dish, it is more satisfying than anything. Doing this is always a new challenge to our skills, understanding, and taste.
Our bestseller authentic Spanish Churros simply was created because we hosted a family from Spain and their little cute daughter really loves to eat Churros. Our Belitung-twist fish & chip was created because of a challenge by our guests from Britain. We will tell you the exciting stories another time in another posts.
So few weeks ago, our story continues. We had a family from Bali (originally from New York) stayed with us and they truly every single menu that we cooked for them. This made us really happy and we brought up the million dollars questions” So, what do you want us to create here?”. Then they answered “how about a Taco?”. Then we were stunned. We have cooked Japanese, Chinese, European, American, Indonesian, and Indian cooking but we have never expected a request to create a Mexican taste!
We were stunned for a second but we quickly researched about what is the philosophy behind a Taco (thanks to Mr. Google for helping these), experimenting with our locally sources ingredients, combining few techniques we found, and of course finding an artisan way to create a crispy taco skin in Arumdalu very own way. We were determined to create a Mexican Taco inspired yet using totally all freshest ingredients in surrounding us. So in the same day, we came out with the perfect Arumdalu’s Taco combination. Here it goes, Tadaaa!
Do you like how it looks? So Arumdalu Taco is made with a combination of a handmade crispy taco skin filled with grilled spiced local fish-of-the-day, topped with fresh Arumdalu farm chopped handpicked salads, and finished with a spoonful of Arumdalu pickles made from the authentic Belitung ingredients, creating a hint of summer taste of Arumdalu. We even designed the plating for it made from wood by our own in-house wooden artisan.

We quickly gave it as a surprise to our guests and they truly love it! They said that it tastes so delicious and refreshing, a Mexican snack yet a truly Arumdalu way. Seeing their happy expressions made we realized that it might be another great idea to put this Taco into the menu for our guests and dinners. Do you know sometimes it feels great to put a new menu not because we think it might be another big hit, but because we want to share the happiness of the process of inventing this new dish with our guests. So we call this taco, BOB’S TACO, simply because Bob, our guest, was the one who came out with the idea. We want to tell everyone that our guests are also part of the family of the resort.
So here is the story of BOB’S TACO. Don’t be surprise if one day all Arumdalu menu will start wit our guest’s names. We truly love our menu, so we do hope you will love it too! BOB’S TACO will be available from 1st September onward in Sahang Beachfront Resto. Try it, we promise you gonna love it!
