Secret Retreats shares these values and has created a collection of destinations and experiences offering authentic travel opportunities that allow guests secret access to the heart of Asian culture and traditions. The organisation has a strict vetting process for allowing new Members into the community. Each property and experience supported by Secret Retreats is small, privately owned and built by passionate individuals who show a particular love and respect for the art, architecture, history, cuisine and culture they’re located in. No two places are alike – or exist anywhere else!
Environmental and Cultural Sustainability
Bound by a common desire to protect the environment, as well as the local people’s cultures, traditions and ways of life, each Secret Retreat member has signed a Sustainability Pledge promising to make the environment and their communities a top priority. Secret Retreats Members are incredibly active in their communities and involved in philanthropic endeavours that support sustainability, local culture or customs, and nature preservation – from marine conservation in West Papua to orangutan survival in Borneo, community engagement in Java to our own organic farming efforts in Indonesia.
Creative Cuisine
Of course, it’s not just the place that makes a journey memorable, often it’s the food. Food has a way of bringing us all together, connecting us with the region and introducing us to the local traditions, culture and customs. Here at Arumdalu, for instance, we’re taking sustainable and organic food to a whole new level making it simple for guests to enjoy meals with seasonal ingredients grown in our farms and greenhouses. Other hotels in the Secret Retreats collection also share this dedication to providing local, authentic cuisine while the organisation’s Secret Tables collection includes independently owned restaurants featuring unique dining atmospheres and creative menus that make the most of the region’s ingredients, cooking styles and traditions.
Where will you journey to next?
